Season 2 of "Fortnite: Battle Royale" Chapter 2, themed after secret agent antics, will run for an extra five weeks. Meanwhile, dataminers are unearthing X-Force secrets of their own.
Instead of finishing on April 30, Chapter 2 Season 2 of "Fortnite" will run on for another five weeks until Season 3 begins on June 4.
"Fortnite" seasons usually last for 10 weeks, though have been extended from time to time -- usually by just one or two weeks.
Chapter 2 Season 1 was the most glaring exception, running just shy of four months after its extensive remodelling of the game's environment.
Developer and publisher Epic Games didn't elaborate on its reasons, but did promise more content.
"We have multiple game updates on the way that will deliver fresh gameplay, new Challenges, bonus XP, and a couple more surprises up our sleeve," the team at Epic Games wrote.
Epic has not yet detailed what those extra activities might be, though the datamining community a round "Fortnite" made some related discoveries.
A secret agent theme has run throughout Season 1, with Agency leader Midas setting weekly challenges for players, and those are expected to continue.
Secondly, Season 2 has already featured two crossovers with 20th Century Fox movie properties, "Deadpool" and "Kingsman."
It would appear that the "Deadpool" tie-in will expand to include at least three more characters from the merc with a smirk's world: Cable, Domino and Psylocke.
Several backpacks and melee weapons also follow the same theme.
