What Time Does ‘Fortnite’ Chapter 2, Season 2 Start?

It feels like it’s been forever, but that might only be because Epic Games got us sort of addicted to the fast-paced, constant update schedule back in Chapter 1. Regardless, Chapter 2, Season 1 has been the longest season in Fortnite history, with a slew of sizable extensions that took us a good long ways past when everyone expected the next chapter to start. Regardless, we’re here: the developer has been aggressively teasing Season 2 over the past couple of days, and now we’re less than than 24 hours away.

The start time for Chapter 2, Season 2 isn’t officially confirmed, but every season has followed the same basic structure since the beginning. We can expect downtime to start at 4:00 AM Eastern time on Thursday, February 20. The length of the downtime always varies, but it tends to be a little bit longer for the beginning of a season. You can expect the season to actually start between 5:00-6:00 AM. It might take a little bit longer, but that’s the general ballpark.

When the servers turn on, we’ll have what we’ve come to expect from a new season: a new battle pass, some map changes, a couple of new items and possibly a new vehicle. Teasers include the central role of something called “The Agency”, hints at dynamite, helicopters and bombs, as well as an overriding gold motif. There’s also likely a cat involved named “Agent Meowsicles”, because this is Fortnite.

We’ll also see a widespread integration of Unreal’s chaos physics, though at this point it’s unclear what impact that will have on the user-facing experience.

The pressure is sort of on for this one. Fortnite entered into Chapter 2 with a huge bang, shutting the game down and replacing everything with a mysterious, attention-consuming black hole before dropping everyone into a new map with several major revamped systems. Things sort of slowed down at that point, howeverâ€"again, Epic got us used to a very intense update scheduleâ€"and now this series of delays have led to a kind of mental attrition. A big start to Season 2 could get thing going again, so we’ll see what we’ve got.
