Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 2 is almost upon us at long last.

The first season of the popular battle royale’s second “chapter” has lasted longer than any other season in the game’s history. It’s nearly twice as long as the longest previous season, and it’s been one of the least eventful.

Suffice to say, it’s a strange way to start a new chapter with a new map and tons and tons of hype after the black hole swallowed the previous map way back in October of 2019.

Thankfully, we’re finally getting some teasers for Chapter 2, Season 2, all of which are pointing to a season dominated by gold. Objects on the map are mysteriously turning gold, and Epic has changed its Fortnite social media accounts to various types of gold bedecked images. Here’s everything we know so far about the new season including when it starts and this season ends. I’ll continue to update this post with more information as it becomes available so be sure to bookmark it and come back later to stay on top of the news.

Start-Date and Start-Time

Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 2 is confirmed to begin on February 20th, 2020â€"02/20/2020 as we Americans write it out, or 20/02/2020 in the European style. Lots of zero’s and two’s but neither is a palindrome. If the season had kicked off on February 2nd it would be 02/02/2020 and a palindrome in both American and European dating. That would have been coolâ€"but I digress.

There will be downtime beginning sometime in the early morning, likely around 3 or 4 am ET (12 or 1 am PT) and lasting for several hours (though this is never set in stone, but these big season switches tend to last longer). Once the downtime is over, the new season will begin. There is no scheduled live event that we know of and it seems unlikely there will be at this pointâ€"another major diversion from past seasons and a bit of a shame.

The new patch will be v12.0 and will likely include map changes, new items and possibly new vehicles among other changes.

Battle Pass

While we haven’t seen any concrete leaks about the Chapter 2, Season 2 Battle Pass we are certain there will be one and it will cost 950 V-Bucks (or just about $9.50) for the basic and 2800 V-bucks to unlock the “premium” Battle Pass bundle and the first 25 tiers.

Right now Epic is teasing the coming season with the color gold so I think it’s safe to assume that gold will figure into both the map changes and Battle Pass. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Tier 100 skin was gold. The image at the top of this post was the fourth teaser image shared by Epic on Monday and could be part of that Tier 100 skin.

On the official Battle Pass page right now there’s the following image:

That’s a day before the new season comes out, so I expect we’ll learn something about the new Battle Pass on Wednesday. Maybe a trailer? Or perhaps just more teasers.

Teasers

Epic Games has started dropping teasers left and right, both on social media and the real world.

You can see all four “Transmission Interrupted” teasers here. It’s still unclear what these are pointing to exactly, but the gold theme is loud and clear.

Meanwhile, Epic has dropped mysterious posters and phone-numbers with recorded messages all over the globe. You can read all the various phone messages gamers have uncovered in this ARG so far right here.

It’s all very vague at this point but there appears to be another clash of secret agents going on in the game. As suspected, this has something to do with the EGO outposts and the EGO organization and what appears to be a mysterious rival (ALTER EGO).

We’ll see what happens today and I’ll update this post as it happens.

Other Changes?

It’s impossible to say what Epic has up its sleeve at the moment. Apparently much of this season’s delay had to do with implementing the Unreal Chaos Engine which ought to give the game better and more realistic physics, but so far it’s hard to tell much of a difference. It’s possible that further implementation will make it more obvious.

There will almost certainly be map changes, but there hasn’t been much of a plot at all this season and very few map changes to speak of so there’s very little to go on unlike other seasons with the CUBE, the comet and so forth. With little to go on it’s tricky to make any sort of guess, though I’d wager gold might have some part in it.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a new vehicle and possibly the vaulting of boats. Epic often adds a new vehicle at the start of a new season and that sometimes means vaulting old vehicles. We may or may not see boats vaulted, but I’d be surprised if we didn’t get some kind of new toy to play with. I still think bikes or skateboards would be cool. Or dune buggies. Then again, Epic has said they want fewer transport options which is why Chapter 2 has so many fewer ways to move quickly about the map than before.

One big change I’d love to see is to the Battle Pass. I hate how challenges are locked now. I vastly preferred it when you could tackle challenges in any order and all at once. It made the game less grindy and allowed players to focus on the types of challenges they preferred to some degree.

As any leaks or reports surface of coming changes for Chapter 2, Season 2 I’ll add them to this section.

That’s all folks.

That pretty much sums everything up for the time being. I will continue to update this post as new information surfaces and Epic drops more clues, teasers, trailers and so forth, so stay tuned.
