Epic Games have finally announced the official end-date for this extremely long season. They’ve also provided some reasoning behind the delay and what we can expect while we wait.

The official end-date for Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 1 is Thursday, February 20th. That’s also the official start-date for Chapter 2, Season 2.

The reason for the delay? Epic Games is moving the game onto the Unreal Engine’s Chaos physics engine. That’s a major overhaul that will be implemented in early February with the v11.50 update. Expect a lot of fancy physics and a more interactive world.

“Beginning with the release of the 11.50 update in early February, Fortnite will be moving to Unreal Engine’s Chaos physics engine,” the company wrote in an update on the Fortnite blog. “At launch, the goal is to ensure that Fortnite still feels like Fortnite. Along the way there will be some bumps, so we’re starting tests with a small group of players. We’ll also closely monitor feedback and make improvements over time.”

In the meantime, between now and February 20th, there will be more Overtime Challenges and an unspecified two-week event. There’s also some redacted teasers in the blog post because Epic says they’re not ready to reveal all of Season 2’s secrets just yet. Let’s just hope we don’t have any more of these ridiculous locked challenges.
