Fortnite
EpicFortniteâs next big patch is here, v10.40, and with it, what may be the final rift zone before we lose the entire map. At least thatâs the running theory. There is a decent amount of stuff to unpack in this latest patch, and thatâs not even counting all the leaks that keep pouring out of the new files.
But for the official stuff? We have:
Starry Suburbs
This is a new rift zone in Fortnite that didnât replace Pleasant Park, but brought back a broken down suburb north of it. But itâs nice now, and the âriftâ gimmick here is that there are shooting stars that drop good loot that fall from the sky when youâre there. Supposedly thereâs a special weapon that appears only in this zone, but Iâm still hunting for exactly what that is. (Update: itâs a gold tac submachine gun)
Bouncer Unvaulted
Iâm not exactly sure why Epic thought it was time to randomly unvault the Bouncer trap, but here we are. Drops in stacks of three, you bounce on it, you get the idea.
Fortnite
EpicSkill-Based Matchmaking
Epic is not introducing bots to the game until season 11 arrives, but they have already implemented skill-based matchmaking as of today, which should result in âmore fairâ matches, ie. bad players match with other bad players, good players match with other good players, which should create more even games. In other games, many believe this can make the game too âsweatyâ when everyone is equally skilled, but weâll have to see how it works here. I am expecting some bumps.
Aim Assist
Epic is rolling out the new aim sensitivity settings on controllers which should hopefully improve things there. Your crosshairs will turn red when a target is in effective range. A full list of the settings and changes can be found here.
The Combine
Kind of paired with the new aiming settings is a way to test those new aiming settings, a mode called The Combine which effectively works as a test shooting range so you donât have to play an actual game to see how things function. Right now, naturally, The Combine is broken and you canât get into it, but by the time youâre reading this, maybe itâs fixed.
Double XP Weekend
As we head toward the end of the season, Fortnite is getting a double XP weekend starting Friday, September 27 at 9 AM ET and runs till Monday, September 30 at 9 AM ET. Double XP for matches, not challenges.
There are also a lot of bug fixes and a new LTM called Zone Wars, and if you want to get into those details you can check out the entire list of patch notes here.
